SHANTY CELESTE VOZ

Bristolian DJ and electronic music producer Shanti Celeste has dropped a new single 'Voz', from her upcoming debut album Tangerine, which is out on the 15th November. Shanti has regular slots on Dalston based radio NTS and also has her own label Peach Discs. Her sound has gradually developed into something more unique since her first single 'Days Like This' which was released in 2014. Shanti admitted that sometimes she would overthink the process of making an EP: "I would think too much about creating the moments on the dancefloor I love—seeing visions of ecstatic people hugging". You can hear a new kind of freedom in her new single 'Voz', which is a step away from her more classic origins in house, and a step towards something darker and more innovative. The new single uses samples of tabla (a traditional Indian drum) and a Kalimba (Zimbabwe thumb piano), paired with gritty noise and bouncily ominous beats. Different frequencies retract and contract, rhythmically dropping in and out. There are fast percussive elements in the track that hint towards jungle, and there's a dub wash over the mix, with a pitched, sampled vocal that's moreishly trippy. She plays back-to-back with Saoirse in Bath on Thursday 03/10, and with Upsammy and Triple Point in Leeds on Saturday 05/10-Ellie Rose-Davies
